Project Overview

Our goal was to build a walking robot inspired by Theo Jansen's Strandbeest sculpture. We wanted to create small-scale Strandbeest powered by electric motors with a fun, slightly creepy character that would identify a person and follow them using computer vision

This is a systems diagram showing the transfer of information and power throughout the components. The robot starts by receiving data about its surroundings through the camera, which is then analysed by the Raspberry Pi to determine the presence and location of a person. That information is then sent to the Arduino and subsequently the motor shield, which powers the motors. The motors are powered in different amounts to allow the robot to turn.

Meet The Team

Hello, this is the team. There is Nicola, Mack, Simon, and Kate. We are a group of 3 Mechanical Engineering majors and one Engineering with Computing major, respectively. Collectively we enjoyed the idea of making a cute, somewhat creepy robot.
