PIE Final Project '21
A remote-controlled car where the user can view around from it in real-time VR in all 360 degrees.
Team: Aaron Huang, Jaclyn Ho, Lauren Xiong, Leopoldo Sanchez, and Melissa Kazazic.
about usWhat is the goal of the VRCar?
The user is able to view from the point of the car's view, in all 360 degrees, in real-time. This allows the user to see the envorinemnt surrounding the car when viewing and controlling the car.
moreCreate a damping system for the camera that allows for stable viewing, and the shakes of the car don't affect the view. Include distance sensors to stop the car from bumping into walls and other objects.
moreControl the car while a user is in VR, using a remote controller such as an Xbox Controller. Build from a driving system such as tank drive and iterate onward. A stretch goal is attempting a telemetry system for less wires.
moreGREY: Systems physically on and part of the VRCar.
PURPLE : Where user can view and interact with the VRCar.

Hi, I’m Aaron (Class of 2024)! I’m a student at Olin College of Engineering majoring in mechanical engineering. I was in charge of designing the chassis and mounts for various components such as the ultrasonic sensors and wheels.
Hi, Jaclyn here! I’m a sophomore studying Engineering with concentration in Robotics, and am a part of the firmware and electrical team. When not obsessing over games, I can be found chilling in the library or the Asian supermarket.
Hi I’m Lauren! I’m a sophomore student majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and I was in the firmware and electrical team. I love travelling around and record my life experiences through my camera lenses!
Hey, I’m Leopoldo. I’m a junior studying mechanical engineering. I was in charge of the mechanical subteam alongside the mounting and chassis of our car. I’m interested in rapid prototyping and exploring what can be done with 3D printing.
Hey, I’m Melissa! I’m a Sophomore studying Electrical Engineering with a Concentration in Computing. I was in charge of software, a bit of initial firmware, and the all of the VR system. I’m very nostalgic for Sonic the Hedgehog games, and have been playing Destiny 2 and the Halo Infinite when I can.
