What is a Camera Slider?
Camera sliders are widely used in photography and videography to obtain smooth panoramic shots across a wide field of view. Some key features are smooth control of motion and stability of the camera.
Industry options for camera sliders are incredibly expensive for what they are: one-axis gantry systems.
We seek to create a slider that maintains the speed and travel distance control of commercial options,
without breaking the bank.
We divided our project into three sprints, each of approximately two weeks. At the end of each sprint, we reflected upon our progress and set future goals, while keeping in mind our overall MVP (LCD screen and functioning linear slider) and stretch goals (pan mechanism, touchscreen user interface). Our product involved integration of mechanical, electrical, software, and firmware elements throughout the process.
Designed and created stepper and gear belt pulley mounts, platforms, and belt mechanisms that enable linear and pan movement
Wired and integrated stepper motors, camera trigger, and touch screen.
Coded the capacitive touchscreen interface in Arduino.
Coded motor control (Speedy Stepper library) and camera trigger control in Arduino.
